This week find out ways to save money with your

• Bills
• With Snacks
• Eating at work

Saving Money on your bills

1. Grocery Receipts - always run your eye over the docket - no mater how long it is. Look out for double ups and amounts over $10.

2. Credit Card Statements - always keep your receipts for your credit card purchases and check them off with every statement. Look out for duplicate entries.

3. Restaurant Bills - never hand over your credit card without checking the amount - it maybe fine for the rich and famous to toss the card on the bill without checking but as a normal Aussie check it quickly.

4. Phone Bills - always scan through your bill checking for extra service charges and run your eye down all the itemised calls looking for any unusual high total call costs.

5. Utility Bills - always compare the last month with the present month and look for any extra service charges.

6. Bank Statements - compare your last statement totals first to see if the amounts are either rising or falling in the way you expect. Then look for any extra fees levied and question them if you're not sure about them.

Saving Money on Snacking

1. Try and make snacks yourself like healthy cakes, biscuits etc. If you're not careful you can end up spending a fortune on those 'hunger fillers' and racking up kilos on junk.

2. Go to the cupboard and make up a sandwich from what's around you'll be amazed what you can come up with when you think you have nothing.

3. If you do buy snacks try and buy healthy - buy a family pack of baked snacks / pretzels etc.

4. Set a limit on the number and types of snacks for the week and buy them in your regular shop to save on buying them at full retail as individual portions/packs.

5. Give the kids fruit as a snack - it's much better for them and cheaper than the pre processed snacks.

6. Buy beverages by the case. They are much cheaper and take them with you to work or when you are going out as you will save a considerable amount and avoid paying full retail.

Eating at Work

1. For office workers, don't be embarrassed by bringing food to work. You can fall into a very expensive habit by buying your lunch every day. All you need to do is to bring food from home either as sandwiches or even left overs from last night's dinner in some sort of plastic container. (Well maybe not in the kids Bob the Builder lunch box!!).

2. Buy frozen meals and bring them into the office and use the office microwave for less than the cost of a sandwich.

3. Find a cheap and cheerful cafe near your office and strike up a friendship with the people there - you'll be surprised how much extra they put on your sandwich or how many extra free cups of coffee you may get over time.

4. Visit a grocery store or deli nearby and buy some bread, cold meats and salads and make your own lunch.

5. Use your fridge at work like your fridge at home. Buy yourself all the essentials for the week's lunches on the weekend or when you do your usual shopping, then take it to work and store it in the fridge. For those working out of offices buy yourself a good esky and thermos and take as much as you can from home.

6. Use the coupons / discount cards offered from coffee shops and eateries near your work.
